Senior Gameplay Engineer

Job description

As Senior Gameplay Engineer at Tic Toc Games, you will be working closely with our Production and Design teams to bring exciting gameplay features to life! You will not be limited to coding, but deeply involved in the design and the direction of our games. Every one of our employees loves playing games and creating games. You are excellent at breaking down large gameplay features into components and communicating the level of effort required.

The right candidate

  • Has experience taking a game from concept to release.
  • Practices Data Oriented Design and Data Driven Programming. Eg: Keeps model data separated from views.

Responsibilities

  • Break down large gameplay features into smaller components and communicate the level of effort required to producers.
  • Help determine the scope of a project and estimate the level of effort for new features.
  • Work with production staff to identify technical risks and breakdown gameplay into user stories and scenarios.
  • Encourage fellow engineers to keep code quality high.
  • Prioritize which tech is high priority for a game’s launch and what tech should have lower priority.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced programmers.
  • Helps keep team morale high when searching for solutions to difficult problems.
  • Program gameplay and application features in Unity for mobile, online, and console games.
  • Collaborate closely with art and design team members to deliver polished, visually impressive, optimized games.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in game development
  • Shipped one or more titles played by thousands or millions of players. Console experience a plus.
  • Strong debugging skills with ability to work in large existing codebase, learn new systems/concepts and implement them quickly and efficiently.
  • Comfortable working in a 3D space.
  • Knowledge of basic kinematics. Eg: Able to create a parametric equation that outputs the 3D position of a ballistic projectile over time.
  • Able to collaborate with other engineers and designers
  • Ability to work well in a fluid, changing environment as creative challenges evolve over the course of a project
  • Mastery in several domains, such as 3D, Math, Shaders, Animation, AI, and Networking.

Unity Engineer

Game Systems Designer

TicToc Games is seeking a Systems Designer with a strong grasp of RPG systems design and excellent wireframing and design analysis skills. We are looking for someone who can create intricate engaging systems designs which all interact elegantly to create a world class in game experience. 

Responsibilities

  • Create elegant, easy to implement systems, which drive user engagement.
  • Create clear and efficient wireframes and feature designs that can be converted into User Stories effortlessly.
  • Work in tandem with the Game Director to ensure all systems support the holistic game vision.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure smooth implementation and execution of your systems.
  • Create and manage all data tables to adjust in-game tuning and balance.
  • Analyse, critique and adjust systems in response to stakeholder requirements.
  • Champion your systems in internal and external meetings, ensuring clarity and alignment.
  • Contribute to all design brainstorms and work collaboratively with other designers and disciplines to help shape the entire game.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years experience in systems design including significant experience designing deep rpg systems.
  • A knowledge and understanding of RPG best practices and current successful rpg titles.
  • At least one shipped title in a systems design role.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with all development disciplines: programming, art, design, sound, and production.
  • Expert understanding of spreadsheet software i.e. Excel, Google Sheets, etc…
  • A passion for gaming, particularly deep rpgs.

Pluses

  • Experience working on free-to-play mobile games.
  • An understanding of basic game analytics and data driven design.

Producer, Mobile Games

Job description

TicToc Games is seeking a Game Producer with outstanding communication and people management skills who can organize, write easy to understand user stories and subtasks, and has a proven track record of shipping high quality mobile games!

Responsibilities

  • Run and facilitate the standard meetings within the SCRUM framework. Daily Standups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective and Sprint Backlog Refinement
  • Facilitate team members when their production is blocked.
  • Estimate resource requirements and budget.
  • Maintain project budget for internal and outsourced resources.
  • Maintain project documentation.
  • Work directly with external publishers to communicate project status.
  • Coordinate resource needs with other teams to creatively meet the needs of a project.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about Free-to-Play games.
  • A minimum of 3 years as a Game Producer or Associate Producer in video game development.

Tech Artist – Unity/iOS/Android

Are you a creative and technical self-starter who is passionate about games? We want to meet you!

Responsibilities

  • Build animated UIs in Unity from concepts and wireframes
  • Create Visual FX in Unity that range from highly stylized 2D to hyper realistic 3D, following Art Director’s concept
  • Use Photoshop and 3D tools (Max or Maya) to build and animate objects for use in both 2D and 3D games
  • Integrate art into Unity, using Unity Tools (e.g. animation editor), plugins (e.g. NGUI, Play Maker, Smooth Moves), shaders, and script components to implement the artistic vision of the game
  • Take direction from the Art Director and Lead Artist and make changes as needed
  • Be a communication bridge between artists and engineers
  • Deliver high quality work on-time and within budget
  • Work with a team in a collaborative Scrum environment
  • Work within constraints set by the technology and target platforms (polycount limitations, texture sizes, etc.)
  • Work with engineers to develop new Unity components as a game’s art pipeline demands

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience working on shipped game titles
  • Ability to use art tools–both internal and external to Unity–to create beautiful UIs, environments, and visual FX
  • Fast learner who can pick up tools and plugins quickly and research 3rd-party solutions as needed
  • Understanding of platform features and limitations for mobile devices
  • Possess a solid understanding of modeling for limited-poly, real-time game pipelines
  • Ability to work with components in Unity (not necessarily to write scripts, but to work with existing component libraries)
  • Ability and experience in working within technical constraints of game engines and editors
  • Possess a solid understanding of shaders (not necessarily writing shaders, but knowing how to find and use them to achieve a desired effect)
  • Passion for gaming
  • Ability to take direction well and to play well with others. No prima donnas!
